SAP is the digital core for digitized healthcare, enabling healthcare facilities of all kinds to provide their processes and services in a data-driven and automated manner while remaining audit-proof and compliant with data protection regulations.
With SAP, you can digitize business processes in accounting, purchasing and procurement, human resources and building management for intelligent resource management at your healthcare facility: from recruiting to personnel planning to billing or from purchase requisitions to goods and invoice receipt to payment or the building management of your facilities and branches and much more on the basis of SAP S/4HANA. Together with your experts and the users of your healthcare facility's business processes, our consultants develop a sensible strategy, a roadmap, to manage the path to digitalization.
Using preliminary studies or analyses, we find the right transformation scenario for the switch to SAP S/4HANA, examine processes, harmonize and optimize them and support you in the targeted switch, the transformation to SAP S/4HANA - of course with the appropriate operating model; whether in the greenfield, brownfield or bluefield approach, whether using a waterfall model or agile methodology.
Reasons for an SAP-first strategy with regard to the migration to SAP S/4HANA
SAP-first strategy: Exemplary approach
In this approach with the use of the SAP standard adapter, for example supplemented by the GITG switch, customers benefit from a proven and standardized procedure.
Do you use i.s.h.med? Then you can continue to use this solution for the time being: The creation of a dual system landscape with an SAP S/4HANA system, in which finance and controlling and materials management processes are already running, and an "old" ECC system with the integrated i.s.h.med solution and familiar functionality. Real-time communication via IDoc ensures the required data exchange.
Or do you want to avoid duplicate maintenance costs and prefer to set up an optimal system landscape to be equipped for the future? In this case, we recommend using a hybrid landscape: a new SAP S/4HANA in on-premises operation, combined with the SAP Patient Accounting module as a cloud solution to manage patient billing and payment processing.
These reasons support an S/4HANA-first strategy:
- SAP grants favorable contract conditions through a "contract conversion", taking into account the old contracts for 2023.
- In October 2022, SAP announced the end of support for IS-H ("Industry Solution HealthCare"), the industry solution with functionalities for patient and billing management, in 2027 and stated that the previous functionalities in IS-H for patient management and billing would have to be mapped via the HIS of other software manufacturers in future.
- In addition to the SAP S/4HANA transformation, the challenge now is to find a successor for IS-H.
- IS-H is very closely linked to the i.s.h.med hospital information system from Oracle Cerner used by many hospitals, effectively forming a complete HIS; this solution is operated on SAP ERP. Oracle Cerner will also discontinue support for the HIS, but will allow maintenance to be extended until 2035 under certain conditions. The Oracle RKT tool integrated in IS-H with feedback to the accounting system for reporting open invoices has also been discontinued.
Various HIS providers presented possible solutions and their development status at the DSAG Congress in May 2024: The first solutions for the German market will be available at the end of 2024/beginning of 2025. According to the DSAG spokesperson
Hospitals and clinics are now facing the challenge of introducing a new HIS system alongside parallel projects such as the KHZG. This means high investment costs, ensuring resource availability, a fundamental decision in favor of a cloud strategy or an existing on-premises solution and a well-considered approach to the SAP S/4HANA transformation.
