Options for the SAP S/4HANA transition
By moving to SAP S/4HANA, you can lay the cornerstone of an agile, forward-looking future for your company. The road to this digital world involves more than just a database migration, however. The implementation of SAP S/4HANA is based on a simplification of your process and IT architecture. To prepare for this step, you’ll need sound process expertise and extensive industry competency.
The roads to SAP S/4HANA differ fundamentally in their approach and technology. The time frame and costs, as well as the results of the different approaches, can be compared in a realistic end-to-end examination. The right path for each enterprise is something that nevertheless needs to be considered carefully and decided on a case-by-case basis.
What happens after the transformation?
After a predominantly technical transformation to SAP S/4HANA, it is important to take advantage of the benefits of the new SAP system. In doing so, it can be useful to additionally reinforce this with organizational measures in order to further increase the company's performance and achieve the overriding goals of profitability, revenue, and employee satisfaction.
In this context, a holistic consulting approach with four phases is recommended:
- Phase I – Strategy
In this phase, the main success factors are analyzed and the fields of action are derived. - Phase II – Process Analysis
SAP Signavio Process Insights (formerly SAP Pathfinder) is used to perform a fact-based analysis and evaluate the SAP S/4HANA innovations in the process and organizational context. Here, the innovations are either already usable in the current version (quick wins), become usable through a release update, or become usable outside of the core through the purchase of additional licenses. At the same time, a detailed analysis of the processes for the various company divisions is carried out within workshops during this phase. This identifies disruptive factors and weaknesses in the organization, processes and systems. - Phase III – Measures & Prioritization
After the successful process analysis, it is important to derive the right measures and analyze the impact on the main success factors. Likewise, the measures must be evaluated in terms of time, costs and benefits. In addition to the creation of project profiles, the design and prioritization of a roadmap for the optimizations is also carried out. - Phase IV – Implementation
In the implementation phase, the prioritized subprojects are processed through organizational measures and/or system adjustments or enhancements.
